The student Raíssa Sabino Cunha, from the 1st year of higher education in Technology in Systems Analysis and Development and graduated from the Computer Technician course at Câmpus Votuporanga, published the eBook entitled "Introduction to Web Accessibility for Developers: small changes that make a difference in the navigation of people with Visual Disabilities".

The virtual book is the result of a project of the Institutional Volunteer Program for Scientific and / or Technological Initiation (PIVICT), guided by professor Luciene Cavalcanti Rodrigues, and aims to promote the importance of thinking about inclusion when working with web development.

In the material can be found concepts and tips necessary to begin to understand and apply accessibility in content developed for the internet, exposing the main problems reported by visually impaired people and explanations about the existing guidelines, in addition to directions for those looking to get deeper.

Raíssa said that when she was still studying, the computer technician noticed the absence of classes and materials on accessibility in the digital environment and realized that she knew little about a subject that she considers very important. "I decided to take advantage of my free time to set up an initial guide for someone who, like me, wants to develop accessible content and does not know where to start or has little time to conduct research."

The student and teacher Luciene decided to focus on visual impairment because, according to them, they are the most present in the population and the one that most suffers from the lack of accessibility on the internet, considering that most of the pages are structured thinking only about visual interaction. .

Also according to Raíssa, during the development of the project came the Covid-19 pandemic, and the world became more digital than ever, showing even more the importance of the theme. It was then that the student started talking to several visually impaired people, through social networks, and surveyed the main difficulties they encounter and how they were aggravated during this period during the pandemic period.

The author of eBook  stated that despite the existence of Brazilian Law for Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, which makes accessibility mandatory on websites maintained by companies with headquarters or commercial representation in the country, all respondents reported facing difficulties in the digital environment due to the lack of accessibility of websites and software. In parallel to the interviews with users, a questionnaire was conducted with developers who were interested in the topic; however, they claimed to have little knowledge on the subject, revealing that, in addition to knowing the importance of accessibility, it is necessary to know how to apply it.

According to Raíssa, the development and the result of the project were gratifying. “I gained a lot of knowledge and I hope that this eBook be useful to people. Even though it is an introductory material, it is extremely important for us to be able to have a fairer and more equal world on the internet, so that users are able to access content and services they are interested in ”, he said.

The work of Raíssa and Professor Luciene will be presented at the 11th edition of the IFSP Innovation, Science and Technology Congress (Conict), which will take place on a virtual basis between December 8th and 10th, and at Latin.Science 2020.
