IFSP Professional and Technological Education Congress extends until the 20th and includes several side events in its program. Access here the videos of the event.
The fourth edition of the IFSP Professional and Technological Education Congress (Conept) began on Tuesday (18).
This year, the event is being hosted by the Campus Araraquara and has as its central theme the ten years of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education, with its current panorama and its challenges.
The host campus auditorium was small in front of an audience of more than 400 people who attended the opening of the Congress. In addition to students and civil servants from various campuses at the Federal Institute of São Paulo, local authorities and guests from other Federal Institutes were also present.
The Pro-rector of Administration, Silmário Batista dos Santos, took part in the solemn table, who represented the IFSP rector, Eduardo Modena; the Municipal Coordinator of Labor and Creative Economy of Araraquara, Camila Capacle Paiva, who represented the mayor of the city, Edson Edinho da Silva; the Dean of Education, Reginaldo Vitor Pereira; the director of the Campus Araraquara, Marcel Pereira dos Santos, and the president of the Organizing Committee of the IV Conept, Cláudia Fonseca Roses.
Professor Cláudia started the speeches thanking everyone who was involved in organizing the event. She highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the congress and the many opportunities for integration in the various side events that take place during the program. Different activities are taking place, such as: meeting students, administration staff, course coordinators; discussions related to the selection process, DE, Napne, Pibid, pedagogical residency, food and nutrition education, among others. Director Marcel Pereira highlighted in his speech the importance of education, especially in the current context of the country. “We are living in a delicate moment, in terms of politics, ethics. Education is the main way to clear our minds, to train not only professionals, but people who are able to listen, to share, who accept differences and make society more tolerant, more human, ”he said.
Pro-rector Vitor Pereira made a history of all Conept editions, contextualizing them with the moment the country was experiencing at that time. In this fourth edition of the event, he highlighted the importance of discussing the reference curriculum and the curricular identity of the Federal Network courses, emphasizing that Federal Institutes must walk together, discussing and promoting policies on behalf of students and that encourage youth leadership .
Professor Silmário Santos highlighted the advances made by the Federal Institute of São Paulo, which today, according to him, is one of the most efficient in the Federal Network in terms of budgetary execution of funding and student assistance. According to the Dean of Administration, this is a reflection of the care and attention that the IFSP has with students. Silmário also spoke about the XNUMXst Administration Meeting: “we are discussing more efficient ways for the student, at the end, to understand our work, seeking to reduce the distance between campuses and the rectory. We will discuss and propose, together with the other deans, ways to achieve success in our challenges ”.
The IFSP dean of education, Reginaldo Vitor Pereira, was the mediator of the opening conference of the IV Conept, which addressed the panorama and challenges for Professional, Scientific and Technological Education. The lecturers were professors Maria Leopoldina Veras Camelo, dean of the Federal Institute of Sertão Pernambucano, and Sidinei Cruz Sobrinho, from IF Sul-rio-grandense, Câmpus Passo Fundo.
They brought data on the expansion of the Federal Network, highlighting the advances and difficulties of the Federal Institutes, which in 2018 reach their 10 years. Today there are 643 units, more than 78 thousand servers and approximately one million students across the country.
Professor Leopoldina Veras, who in addition to being a dean is a member of the Teaching Chamber of the National Council of Institutions of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (Conif), mentioned that one of the great challenges is to offer pedagogical training to train teachers who do not have gone through a degree and are faced with the challenge of a classroom where they will train teachers, since 20% of the places offered by the Institutes must be destined to degree courses. She pointed out that the Federal Network is the only one in the world to offer all levels and modalities of education, ranging from integrated technical education, concurrent and subsequent to high school; passing through the education of young people and adults (EJA) until they reach the undergraduate programs that include bachelor's degrees, undergraduate courses and technology courses until the postgraduate courses. Continually preparing teachers to teach in such a diverse universe is a challenge and a necessity.
Sidinei Cruz highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the institutes. According to him, the demand, the search for new students by the FIs is growing. There are an average of more than one million and nine hundred thousand students who enroll in the selection processes to compete for around 480 thousand vacancies. He cited as a strong point of the Federal Institutes the high qualification of the teaching staff, where more than 80% of the professors are masters or doctors, as well as the technical-administrative professionals, who are increasingly qualified. He also mentioned the empowerment of students in the network. One of the weaknesses he highlighted refers to the dropout rates, which are still very high.
All data presented by the speakers are available on the Nilo Peçanha platform: https://www.plataformanilopecanha.org/.
