The Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education, composed of the Federal Institutes, Federal Technological Education Centers (CEFETs) and Colégio Pedro II, has always guided its actions by public education, free, inclusive and of quality, taken in its broader concept. . And so it has been in times of coronavirus.

Since the announcement of the pandemic in Brazil, the institutional guidance has followed the protocols indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), Ministry of Health (MS) and health authorities, which are anchored in the foundations of science.
The representative collegiate of the Network - National Council of Institutions of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (Conif) - carefully monitors the observance of this orientation, focused on preserving human life and public health. The Federal Network adhered to the national mobilization to build a sanitary barrier, restrictive and preventing viral spread, through social isolation, a measure of proven efficacy, to contain the uncontrolled contagion that may result in the increase in the loss of lives of Brazilians and in the collapse public health system.

In the Federal Network, educational campaigns are promoted and inputs are generated, by the scientific and technological community, in extension and innovation, aiming to combat viral escalation. Items are produced, such as liquid and gel alcohol 70% and protective masks, made in 3D printers, respirators, platforms for monitoring the evolution of the virus, and many other initiatives. In addition to that, actions are being developed at the Innovation Poles, with the Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii) and the productive sector, aiming at the conception of startups, innovative actions, prototypes, archetypes and functional products and applied in the fight against pandemic.

Education is essential to know and fight the virus, given that public health policies are governed by scientific postulates, which can only be obtained through studies processed by human cognition. The theme of this viral pandemic is inserted in a macro field of knowledge, medical science, which dialogues with other transversal scientific branches, such as infectious diseases, biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, among others.

Recent scientific investigations, carried out in Brazilian laboratories, revealed that the virus, after penetrating the national territory, undergoes a transfiguration in the structure of its genome that results in a genetic mutation, a discovery that may be important to fight this invisible enemy and to conquer the cure of the disease caused by it. Analyzes take place in the universe of federal institutes and universities, governed by human reason and in favor of life.

Education paves the way for research, which has historically generated gains for humanity and, in relation to this pandemic outbreak, science will certainly continue in this direction.

Such reflections indicate that it is imperative to invest, incisively, in Brazilian education, especially in the structure of the institutions that make up the Federal Network, in promoting research and in stimulating and valuing its teachers and technicians, in the dual plan of educating, both in activity-end as well as activity-environment. And to keep this operational force always stimulated, it is necessary to flex spending and expand investments in education, in structure and in personnel, to guarantee the application of knowledge in favor of the life of Brazilians.

The Federal Network has a relevant role, both in the present time, to mitigate the devastating effects of the crisis, as well as in the future time of the post-crisis, so that the country can resume the regularity of economic activity, recover jobs, reinvigorate industrial production and revitalize local productive arrangements, in agriculture, services and technological innovation, essential fields to reactivate and rekindle our economy.

In this sense, Conif, sensitive to the cry of the Brazilian people, reaffirms the Federal Network's commitment to the Nation, and calls on the federated entities, the constituted powers and public agents to pay attention to the vital need to value socially referenced public education, and the agents that act in it, in all and any time, especially in this delicate moment of the national life.
